- PLUGIN | The2nd
Get off the bench and get in the game – PLUG IN FOR CHANGE! MAKE THE COMMITMENT Our Vision “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." As we transition into 2025, we are aligning our vision with Christ at the center, focusing on children, church, and community. The C4 Generosity Initiative is an opportunity for us to come together as a church family to build a lasting legacy—empowering future leaders and strengthening the mission of our church for generations to come. Plug-in to Christ As the head of the church, all we do falls under Christ’s Lordship. He is the foundation of our leadership, guiding every decision, ministry, and action. Rooted in biblical teachings, our mission reflects His love, grace, and truth. We prioritize spiritual growth through prayer, study, and worship while serving others with compassion, following Christ’s example. Through a Christ-centered community, we strive to reflect His character, keeping Him at the heart of everything we do. Plug-in to Church We are committed to offering engaging and transformative worship experiences, both in-person and online, to help people connect with God. By investing in facilities and technology, we aim to create an environment that enhances worship, whether through physical spaces or digital platforms. Discipleship remains at the heart of our mission, fostering spiritual maturity through group studies, classes, and mentorship programs. Additionally, we are focused on eliminating church debt to strengthen our financial position, enabling greater investment in ministry and future growth. Through financial stewardship, we teach and model biblical principles, encouraging generosity and the wise use of resources to support the church’s mission. Plug-in to Children Plug-in to Children Plug-in to Children Our NexGen Youth and Exalt Young Adults Ministry are growing, and we must equip them to be the next leaders. With this initiative we will continue to build a strong biblical foundation to nurture spiritual growth. Through leadership development, we provide opportunities for young people to serve, lead, and cultivate their God-given gifts. We strive to create safe and inclusive spaces where children and young adults feel welcome, valued, and supported. Plug-in to Community Building on our impact in the John Barrow community, we are expanding outreach efforts to serve and uplift those around us. Through local programs, strategic partnerships, and community service, we address immediate needs while fostering lasting connections. Evangelism remains at our core as we share Christ’s message and welcome others into our ministries. By continually enhancing our strategies, we ensure sustained growth and a greater collective impact. Your Role in this Initiative We invite everyone to “Plug-In”—to get involved in ministries that empower and grow the body of Christ. This initiative encourages us to plug into the vision of Christ, strengthen our church, invest in our children and young adults, and reach out to our community. By joining together, we’re not only shaping our present reality but also laying a strong foundation for the next generation. Together, we will build a legacy of faith, empowerment, and purpose that our future leaders can carry forward. MAKE THE COMMITMENT ROAD TO $3,000,000 Help us reach our goal: This three-year campaign is dedicated to funding and strengthening our four pillars. Contributions will be above and beyond regular tithes and offerings, focusing on equal sacrifice rather than equal giving. Through your support, we can establish a lasting legacy of generosity, deepen our trust in God, and experience the true joy of giving. Goal: $3,000,000 $0 GIVE TODAY! Our Goal for Future Leaders We are launching a Freedom School —an after-school and summer program dedicated to strengthening our youth in reading, math, science, and more. Through engaging lessons, mentorship, and a faith-based foundation, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to excel. Stay tuned for more information regarding our Freedom School. Pray & Fast with us on this journey! Throughout this initiative, we’ve created several ways for you to PLUG-IN! This commitment goes beyond giving above and beyond your regular tithes and offerings—it’s a sacred moment. It’s a commitment to becoming better TOGETHER! We invite you to join us in our Generosity Studies, integrated into all our discipleship programs. We’ve developed prayer plans, 21-Day Prayer & Fasting Guides, sermons focused on our initiative, and a 7-week study featuring Five Pillars of a First-Class Life by Dr. Carla Maxwell Ray. Download the resources and join us in the study sessions as we grow together in faith and generosity. JOIN 21-DAY FAST DOWNLOAD PRAYER CARD Questions or Concerns about our Initiative? - Our Beliefs | The2nd
Learn more about our church principles, mission, values, and constitution. #WeAreThe2nd Growing together to make an impact on the Kingdom of God. JOIN SBC WHAT WE BELIEVE ARTICLES OF FAITH The Articles of Faith are adopted by Baptist churches at the time of organization. I. THE SCRIPTURES We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions shall be tried. II. THE TRUE GOD We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is Jehovah, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. III. THE FALL OF MAN We believe the Scriptures teach that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker, but by voluntary transgression, fell from that holy and happy state; in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint but choice; being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the law of God, positively inclined to evil; and therefore under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or excuse. IV. THE WAY OF SALVATION We believe that the Scriptures teach that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace; through the mediatory offices of the Son of God; who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon Him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made a full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, He is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in His wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfections; He is in every way qualified to be a suitable, compassionate, and all-sufficient Savior. V. JUSTIFICATION We believe the Scriptures teach that the great Gospel blessing which Christ secures to such as believe in Him is justification; that justification includes the pardon of sin, and the promise of eternal life on principles of righteousness; and is bestowed, not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s blood; by virtue of which faith His perfect righteousness is freely imputed to us of God; that it brings us into a state of most blessed peace and favor with God, and secures every other blessing needful for time and eternity. VI. THE FREENESS OF SALVATION We believe that the Scriptures teach that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the Gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by cordial, penitent, and obedient faith; and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth, but his own determined depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel; which rejection involves him in an aggravated condemnation. VII. REGENERATION We believe that the Scriptures teach that in order to be saved, sinners must be regenerated, or born again; that regeneration consists in giving a holy disposition to the mind that it is effected in a manner above our comprehension by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truths, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the Gospel; and that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance and faith, and newness of life. VIII. REPENTANCE AND FAITH We believe that the Scriptures teach that repentance and faith are sacred duties, and also inseparable graces, wrought in our souls by the regenerating Spirit of God; whereby being deeply convinced of our guilt, danger and helplessness and the way of salvation by Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition, confession, and supplication for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our prophet, priest, and king, and relying on Him alone as the only and all sufficient Savior. IX. GOD’S PURPOSE OF GRACE We believe the Scriptures teach that election is the eternal purpose of God, according to which he graciously regenerates, sanctifies and saves sinner; that being perfectly consistent with the free will of man, it comprehends all the means in connection with the end; that it is a most glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness, being infinitely free, wise, holy and unchangeable; that it utterly excludes boasting and promotes humility, love, prayer, praise, trust in God, and active imitation of his free mercy; that it encourages the use of means in the highest degree; that it may be ascertained by its effects in all who truly believe that Gospel; that it is the foundation of Christian assurance; and that to ascertain it with regard to ourselves demands and deserves the utmost diligence. X. SANCTIFICATION We believe the Scriptures teach that Sanctification is the process by which, according to the will of God, we are made partakers of His holiness; that it is a progressive work; that it is begun in regeneration; and that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the Sealer and Comforter, in the continual use of the appointed means especially the Word of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness, and prayer. XI. PERSEVERANCE OF SAINTS We believe the Scriptures teach that such only are real believers as endure to the end; that their persevering attachment to Christ is the grand mark which distinguishes them from superficial professors; that a special Providence watches over their welfare; and they are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. XII. THE LAW AND GOSPEL We believe the Scriptures teach that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of his moral government; that it is holy, just and good; and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts, arise entirely from their love of sin; to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a Mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy Law, is one great end of the Gospel, and of the Means of Grace connected with the establishment of the visible church. XIII. A GOSPEL CHURCH We believe the Scriptures teach that a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenants in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by his laws; and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word; that its only scriptural officers are Bishops or Pastors, and Deacons whose qualifications, claims and duties are defined in the Epistles to Timothy and Titus. XIV. BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER We believe the Scriptures teach that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, into the name of the Father, and Son, and Holy Ghost; to show forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, with its effect, in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that is prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation; and to the Lord’s Supper, in which the members of the church, by the sacred use of bread and wine, are to commemorate together the dying love of Christ; preceded always by solemn self-examination.

- Response To Current Litigation | The2nd
SBC OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO CURRENT LITIGATION Dear 2nd Baptist Church Family, We find ourselves facing an unexpected challenge, and we want to address it with utmost transparency and accountability. Recently, a member of our church family filed a civil lawsuit against Second Baptist Church, former Associate Pastor Ivan Lambert, and the church's insurance company. The lawsuit alleges that Mr. Lambert, during his time of employment at the church, engaged in a sexual relationship with the member when she was a minor, claiming coercion and grooming. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the then church leadership in failing to recognize, prevent, or address the alleged abuse, as well as in its hiring and screening practices regarding Mr. Lambert. We want to emphasize that all the allegations brought forth in this lawsuit occurred before the tenure of Senior Pastor Dr. Maurice Watson and before the establishment of our new Trustee Board. As we navigate this sensitive matter, our church legal counsel is diligently working on a formal response on the merit of the lawsuit. Mr. Lambert is expected to have separate personal counsel representing him in this legal proceeding. In times like these, our priority remains unwavering – to ensure that any alleged victim is treated with the utmost respect and care. Our church family and each member within it are of paramount importance, and we will approach this matter as a united and supportive body. Out of respect for the privacy of our members and their loved ones, legal counsel has advised church trustees and leadership not to discuss specific details of the lawsuit. We understand the significance of this decision and appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Also, during this challenging period, we humbly request your patience, and we will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available. We stand united in our determination to emerge stronger from this crisis, and we earnestly seek your prayers and support as we work towards a resolution. Together, as a steadfast community of faith, we will navigate these trying times and reaffirm our commitment to compassion, healing, and fostering a safe environment for all to worship. With gratitude and sincerity, Dr. Maurice Watson, Senior Pastor 2nd Baptist Church Board of Trustees
